You’re Invited!

Something very exciting is happening here at A Glimpse of Starlight next week. *drumroll* Yep, that’s right—it’s my blog anniversary! Two years ago on September 21st I posted for the first time. Two years. That feels like a long time, a big deal. I didn’t do a first-year party last year because I was still figuring out this blogging thing and hadn’t really been introduced to the custom of celebrating blogoversaries (spelling?). This year, however, I’m super excited to celebrate with you guys.

On a side note (because I can’t refrain from noticing patterns and theorizing about them #infjproblems), it seems like a lot of people have had blog anniversaries recently, like within the last month or so. I’m wondering if it’s this time of year—maybe some people have to set up blogs for school, or maybe it’s the last hurrah of their summer? You know, those last few weeks in August when you realize that you had all things you wanted to do this summer but ohmystorms I haven’t done a single one of them let’s get going! Who knows. But I find it an interesting phenomenon.

Anyhow. On to the fun stuff. As the title says, you are invited to celebrate my blogday (like birthdays. but for blogs. it’s easier to spell than blogoversary, so we’re going with it.). The main festivity is a Q & A time with me. I’ve seen a lot of blogs do this, and while I’d love to be original, I think it’s a great idea. It’s really fun to get to know you, my awesome readers, by reading your questions, and I’ve found it delightful to get to know the blogger through their answers.

So, please comment with questions you’d like me to answer by this Saturday, the 17th, so I can get together my celebration post by the 21st.

I’m open to anything (as long as it’s respectful and appropriate, of course)—books, music, hobbies, memories, facts about me/my life, hypothetical situations, politics, religion, writing … the sky’s the limit! From random trivia to what I believe about certain issues, from life tips to future dreams—ask it all. I can’t wait to chat with you guys.

But that’s not all. I don’t want it just to be all about me. I want it to be about this blog, a huge part of which is you, my readers. You’re the reason I keep doing this, and I want to give you something on this special day. Consider it a party favor. Ideally, I would have done a giveaway but since I’ve just moved to another a continent (and since shipping stuff from Europe is expensive), it’ll have to be in the form of words. As for what kind of words, you get to pick! Please vote in the poll below about what you’d most like to see in the celebration next week.

Plus, I’m going to list some fun facts about my blog. It’s going to be awesome. Let the questions flood in, and see you then!

Would you rather have a pink dragon or a sparkly unicorn?
If you could eat only hot dogs or only hamburgers for a main course for a month, which would it be?
Would you rather live in Rohan or in Gondor?
The doorbell rings. You answer it. Sherlock Holmes and Lord Peter Wimsey are standing on the doorstep. Each one wants you to come help them with cases they’re on. With whom do you go?
    Favorite ice cream toppings?
Waffles or pancakes? (Or more importantly, TONS ON MAPLE SYRUP OR NO?)
You’re walking down a street, and a girl with a knife runs out of a house in front of you and looks wildly around. Your first impression is most likely a) AHHH SERIAL KILLER RUN FOR MY LIFE b) is an horror movie being filmed here? c) oooh how can I write a story about this? d) I was too busy daydreaming to notice anything.

  2. Welp. So many questions, so I’ll only ask one (and it’s not really related to writing, I’m sorry XP)(I also don’t want to make stuff complicated by asking possibly provocative questions, so): 1) What’s the coolest thing you’ve seen in your travels to Germany so far? 2) Would you say that so far Germans have proved to be “unfriendlier” than Americans, “friendlier,” or just “other”/”different”? (this question has come up several times in my experiences, but I don’t know if I’m objective, so I would love to know what your experiences have been so far) 3) HOW DO YOU GET ALL THAT READING IN. *cough* Jk. What would you say is the best way to keep yourself focused while reading? How do you not drift off into your own imagination whilst trying to enter an author’s own imaginary world? (I mean, you do use your own imagination, of course, but how do you not drift off into your own imaginings whilst trying to focus on an author’s own?)

  4. Hi there! I just want to know how you have such a depth and understanding in your writing. It seems like it just comes naturally to you. And another question: how do you see God? That is, when you think of Him, what comes to mind?
If these questions are too personal, please don’t feel as though you have to respond. : )

    1. Hi, Hannah! First of all, it means a lot that you think I have that in my writing, since sometimes I wonder if my writing is meaningful or if I’m just rambling pointlessly. I guess it’s just the way I am—I like to ponder things, and I think about things deeply. I tend to look at normal circumstances and wondering how they connect to other things, if there’s something deeper behind them. I definitely think it’s my personality and maybe also a gift God has given me?

And that’s a great question, how I see God. It’s funny, because that’s something I’ve been working on recently. I feel like I’ve always struggled with seeing Him the wrong way—as being angry with me or condemning me or just waiting for me to make another mistake. But hopefully that’s changing, because now I’d say (most of the time) I see Him as a Father. Like, when I think of Him, I imagine Him watching over me—not just the whole world, but me, personally, involved in the little details of my life. I’m trying to see Him as the father of the prodigal son, who ran up to him and forgave him even before he confessed. I’m trying to keep my eyes open to the little things in my day that go right—a pretty sunrise, my favorite meal, a good book to read—and remind myself that those are love letters from Him to me. And He’s declared me innocent, like it says in Romans 8:34. He doesn’t condemn me anymore; He’s my only judge, and He has said not guilty.

Another way that I see Him as big. That sounds kind of weird, but just so beyond me, so vast and powerful. He’s holy and majestic and someone whose face we can’t see because it will kill us. I guess it’s kind of the opposite of seeing Him as a Father, but it comforts me to know that He knows what going on when I don’t. Because He’s so much more powerful and wise than I am, He’s got a plan even when I’m too small to get it.

So those are some really long answers. I apologize. xD But no, I don’t mind those questions at all, and thank you for asking!

  7. Well, I was going to type some questions here… but from the looks of things, you might already need to split your interview into two posts! 😮 So I’ll gladly wait and see how you answer everyone else’s questions. 😉

    In the meantime… HAPPY BLOGOVERSARY!!

*claps hands excitedly* I’m so excited for you!!! Two years!!! That’s awesome!! And let me tell you, your blog is amazing! Your writing style is both casual yet informative. You write as if you were talking to the person in front of you, and to the viewer, we read it as if we’re talking with a friend. Your posts are always a joy to read!

~ How do you find inspiration for your posts?
~ Assuming you enjoy writing, do you have any goals or dreams for your talent?
~Which novel or novels has influenced you most? Has there been any that have knocked you over the head with a new idea, thought, or opened your eyes to something you otherwise wouldn’t have realized?
~Why is reading important to you?
~What is your number one most favorite book ever?
~Is there a novel you wish more people would read?

    1. Thank you so much! And wow, I’m really glad you think that about my writing. I want it to be a joy to read, but sometimes I’m not sure how I’m doing with that, so thank you for that encouragement.
Can’t wait to answer these questions!

  12. This looks awesome! Happy early blogday (yes, that’s so much simpler!)! Hmmm, questions. I’m so awful at asking questions XD Is the Q & A going to be a vlog or a post? (No that’s not a legit question for submission :P)

1.) How would you react if someone burned one of your WIPs as an act of revenge (as Amy did in “Little Women”)? Would you burn someone else’s manuscript?
2.) What is a book you had high expectations for, but disappointed you greatly?
3.) What is a book you had low expectations for, but surprised you greatly?
4.) What are some OTPs/ships of yours that are not mainstream? (i.e., Katniss/Gale instead of Katniss/Peeta)
5.) If you could smell one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?
6.) If you could meet a single person of historical significance (dead or alive), who would you choose?
7.) What is one of your writing quirks?
8.) If you had to choose between saving your stash of handwritten manuscripts or your cat (*insert some other pet you might be more attached to*) from a house fire, which would you choose and why?
9.) Do you play any musical instruments? If so, which ones and for how long?
10.) What is the most difficult thing you’ve ever had to do before an audience?

You are not entitled to answer all of these questions if you receive a larger plethora than you want to answer!!
